III Festival Internacional de Arte de Marbella del 23 al 26 de junio de 2011

Bienvenidos a FIAM III – El Pulso del Arte en Marbella Marbella es un referente mundial como destino turístico de lujo, sus múltiples encantos han cautivado a príncipes, estrellas y celebridades de todo el mundo durante más de cinco décadas, en este tiempo, la cuidad ha crecido y evolucionado, para el deleite de sus residentes y visitantes, que se rinden a sus pies por su mezcla explosiva de nacionalidades, culturas y eventos.

Admirada por su belleza natural, por su gran cantidad de ofertas deportivas, sus campos de golf, su gastronomía de alta gama, y sus establecimientos de lujo, Marbella no siempre se reconoce como destino cultural, y es en este campo, donde FIAM está jugando un papel importante, ayudando a consolidar la imagen de Marbella como un destino turístico que ofrece más que sol, playa, compras y vida nocturna.

Este año ya es la tercera edición del FIAM. que empezó como el sueño de la diseñadora de interiores británica, Caroline Bowley, y de la artista Pixie Glore. Desde sus comienzos el colorido y dinámico festival establecido en pleno centro de Marbella, ha atraído una amplia gama de artistas de todas las disciplinas artísticas, y de muchas nacionalidades. Destacable es también, el hecho de que este evento desde el principio ha sido un éxito entre el público, y ha atraído a más de 20.000 personas cada año, convirtiendo a FIAM en uno de los eventos culturales más sonados del calendario anual de la cuidad. Está inspirado en los populares festivales de arte al aire libre de EE.UU., como los muy conocidos de Miami y Florida, teniendo la intención de que a medida que vaya creciendo tenga un mayor impacto económico en la ciudad.

FIAM no es sólo un escaparate del talento artístico, mostrando todo tipo de técnicas artísticas, desde pintura, escultural, fotografía, murales hasta arte digital, sino que FIAM III también muestra el carácter cosmopolita de Marbella con unas 20 nacionalidades representadas en la edición de 2011. FIAM siempre ha contado con el apoyo del Ayuntamiento de Marbella, y especialmente del Concejal de Turismo, José Luís Hernández, quien ve el FIAM como un punto de integración de la ciudadanía multicultural de Marbella.

Todos los años, FIAM sorprende al público – y a los propios artistas – con innovaciones que ayudan a enriquecer y consolidar al evento. Este año, hay varios concursos, como el, un taller creativo de Ana Fischel con el Concurso del Billete de Oro, además del lanzamiento del concurso Guarnieri Art Car - demostrando así como el FIAM ha captado el interés y el apoyo de la comunidad. Dos causas benéficas también estarán presentes, la Triple A, asociación de animales abandonados y el Lions Club francés, que está recaudando fondos para perros guía para personas ciegas.

Además FIAM III está complementado por un programa de actuaciones diversas, que incluye música, teatro, danza, poesía y opera; como novedad este año, FIAM III incorpora un ciclo de películas de arte y una exposición de muebles vintage de los años 50 y 60.

FIAM III está orgulloso de representar a todos los artistas participantes en esta edición, y sigue empeñado en su misión de crecer y sacar a la luz el talento artístico tanto de la cuidad, como de los muchos artistas que se acercan de muy diversos lugares del mundo para compartir su arte con nosotros.

Welcome to FIAM 3 – Marbella’s Beating Art Marbella is famous worldwide for its multiple charms; an internationally renowned luxury tourist destination with an historic jet-set following, which has grown and evolved for the past 50 years, delighting residents and visitors with an explosive mix of nationalities, cultures and events.

Appreciated for its natural surroundings, sporting opportunities, golf courses, fine dining and luxury shopping, Marbella has not always been recognized as a cultural destination, and FIAM 3 is playing an important role in consolidating the town’s image as a resort which offers more than just sun, sand, shopping and nightlife.

Now in its third year, FIAM began as the brainchild of British interior designer, Caroline Bowley, and American artist, Pixie Glore, and from the outset the dynamic, colourful event in the heart of Marbella, has attracted a diverse stable of quality artists across all disciplines and from a wide variety of nationalities. Importantly, the event was an instant hit with the public, and has been attracting annual visitor numbers of 20,000 people per 3-day event, making FIAM one of the resort’s key cultural extravaganzas. Based on the successful art fairs staged all around USA, notably, Miami and Florida, as FIAM grows it makes a considerable economic impact on the town and the artists themselves.

A showcase not only for artistic talent and diversity, with all disciplines represented from painting, sculpture, photography, muralists to digital art, FIAM 3 is a true snapshot of Marbella’s cosmopolitan personality, with some 20 nationalities exhibiting at the 2011 edition.

Every year, FIAM surprises and delights the public - and exhibiting artists – with innovations that help to consolidate and enrich the event. This year, a series of competitions, such as Ana Fischel’s Twelve Quests Golden Ticket competition ,a creative Children workshop run by Ana and this year , launch of the Guarnieri Art Car Competition, demonstrate the commitment the local community is entrusting to the FIAM. Two charitable causes are also present at this year’s event, the Triple A animal shelter and the French Lion’s Club who are raising money to buy guide dogs for the blind.

As well as the usual, 3-day long, round-the-clock programme of varied entertainment, including music, dance, opera, poetry and drama, this year, FIAM 3 includes a cycle of art films and an exhibition of vintage 50s and 60s furniture.

FIAM 3 is proud to represent and promote all the artists exhibiting in this year’s festival, and would like to express its aim to continue to grow and support Marbella’s thriving international artistic community “from here to eternity”.

AMANDA SHERYN KABBARA Amanda Sheryn Kabbara’s paintings reflect her fantastic ideas in which iconic visions get interwoven with fragments of reality, thus creating the pieces of great symbolism and originality.

The feelings of solitude and hope, the multicoloured dreams versus melancholy and personal subconscious views simply breathe through her paintings which charm the viewer with their absolute genuineness: there is no Affectation or desire to impress whatsoever! “ I interpret into my paintings my subconscious views and dreams.

Las obras de Amanda Sheryn Kabbara refleja sus ideas de fantasía en lo cual la visión icónica se entremezclan con fragmentos de la realidad y así crea obras de gran simbolismo y originalidad.

ANA FISCHEL A series of special creative workshops presented by Ana Fischel as part of the Festival Internacional de Arte Marbella which are designed to make writing for children exciting and easy! Gothic fantasy adventures surrounding Ana’s latest series ‘The Twelve Quests’ children learn from a professional author how to create their own characters and start a short story in a fun and simple way!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Ana trained at Edinburgh College of Art as an illustrator and film maker. She then worked as an artist in Paris shortly after graduating, before moving to London where she worked for David Marks and Julia Barfield the architects behind the London Eye. In 2001 she moved to Spain with her family where she started writing ‘The Twelve Quests’. All twelve books were published late last year and as well as working on a new series, Ana has been collaborating with London based company Zorluna to create an enchanted range of ‘bejewelled fairy stories’ each bespoke piece based on ‘The Twelve Quests’ tales – these will be on sale soon and will be sold as collectibles. Ana’s inspiration comes from all areas of folklore and she can often be found by the sea scribbling in her trusty notebook as she watches mermaids and pirates cavorting in the distance.

The Twelve Quests’ are a darkly quirky set of fantasy books by this children’s author and story magician, which are aimed at 8-14 year olds. Ana draws much of her inspiration from the intrinsic elements of old folklore, reviving them and weaving elements into her own enchanted flying carpet of pure gothic adventure, which takes the reader on the ride of their life as they are transported to far-flung lands! The vividly embellished characters spring out from the pages into dreamscapes where danger lurks behind every shadow!

Whilst Ana stitches ‘a pocket full of fun and mischief’ into each tale, she always maintains an absolute sense of traditional story.

ANA MUÑOZ Born in Madrid, Ana Muñoz trained as the Escuela Central de Artes Apli-cadas y Oficios Artísticos (central school of applied arts and the artistic professions), before entering Madrid’s Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (San Fernando Fine Arts Academy) in 1969. After completing her studies, she travelled widely throughout France and Italy. Ana Muñoz’s work has been exhibited in Spain’s most renowned galleries and at numerous events in several countries.

Nació en Madrid y estudió en la Escuela Central de Artes Aplicadas y Oficios Artísticos y después en la Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando en Madrid en 1969. Una vez que había terminado sus estudios, ella viajó extensivamente por Francia y Italia. Las obras de Ana Muñoz han sido expuestos en conocidas galerías en España y se ha exhibido en distintos eventos en varios países.

ANN RIDGE I describe myself as a contemporary quilt artist who has become versatile using many of my hand painted; dyed and screen printed fabrics including mixed media fusions to make small quilts, yoga mat bags and household accessories.

Last year I began to fuse lace on wood. Large quilts are mostly made on commission.

Commissioned to make diaphanous organza jackets in Chogapko, a Korean 3-sided seam technique from Pojagi.

I’ve become accustomed to describing my work in Southern Spain as a textile artist painting with threads on fabric. My inspiration is mostly drawn from landscapes and architecture using my drawings and photos taken whilst traveling.

Small quilts 30 x 30 cms were made from 2008 to date for exhibitions in art galleries in the USA. Many of these quilts were inspired from my photos of the Spanish landscape.

Ann Ridge nació en Inglaterra y vivió y trabajó en Zúrich, Suiza hasta el año 2004. Es una maestra en composiciones de telas y técnicas más diversas. Sus trabajos se han exhibido en el Reino Unido, el EE.UU., Alemania, España, Francia, Suiza y Australia.

Sus trabajos textiles han sido inspirados casi siempre espontáneamente por las plantas o por la arquitectura.

Algunas veces utiliza una variedad de técnicas en una sola pieza por ejemplo de fusionar, pintar y laminar papel, la aplicación, utilizando plástico de fundir o incorporando fragmentos bordados que al final se cosieron a mano o a máquina. De éstas provienen los actuales objetos acolchados mucho más grandes. Mientras tanto, algunos trabajos pequeños, como chaquetas o pantallas diafonías de organiza, realizadas en estilo patchwork de Chogakpo (una técnica coreana del siglo XIV), están en desarrollo.

Ella siga produciendo objetos de arte muy variados y enseña también a bordar a máquina libre en talleres en su hogar en Marbella.

ANNA-MAIJA REÉS Anna-Maija is Scandinavian in origin, born in Helsinki, Finland. She studied architecture at the University of Lund, Sweden and completed her Master Degree in 1982. Her tutor was the well-known Hans Asplund, the son of the world famous architect Gunnar Asplund.

Anna-Maija has also studied in different art schools and taken part of in workshops and seminars in Finland, Norway, Germany and Spain.

As a sculptor and an architect she is mastering different materials and the three dimensional design. “I am seeking for the spiritual in materials - whether stone,metal,clay or paper, to create a piece of sculpture of beauty, expression and contemplation. My visit to the artist hut in Ny Ålesund, the last settlement before North Pole, awakened concerns of our planet in me. My latest sculptures are influenced by this experience“.

1995 Anna-Maija opened her own Raku-studio in south of Sweden and since 1998 she has had a studio in San Pedro Alcántara in Spain. Anna-Maija undertakes commissioned work Anna-Maija es escandinavo de su origen. Nació en Helsinki, Finlandia. Ella estudió arquitectura en la Universidad de Lund en Suecia y completó su Máster en 1982. Su examinador fue el conocido Hans Asplund, el hijo del arquitecto famoso Gunnar Asplund. Anna-Maija también estudiado en diferentes escuelas de arte y ha participado en talleres y seminarios en Finlandia, Noruega, Alemania y España.

Como una escultora y arquitecta domina los materiales y las tres dimensiones del diseño. “Estoy buscando lo espiritual en el material; la piedra, los metales, las arcillas y el papel, para crear objetos de arte de belleza, la expresión y la contemplación. Mi visita a la casita de artistas en Ny Ålesund, el último asentamiento antes de Polo Norte, despertó las preocupaciones ambientales de nuestro planeta en mí. Mi última obra de arte está influenciada por esta experiencia.”

1995 Anna-Maija abrió su propio estudio de Raku al sur de Suecia y desde 1998 ha tenido un estudio en San Pedro Alcántara en España. Ella hace proyectos de arte en encargo, integradas en el medio ambiente para usos públicos y privados.

ARCADIO THOMAS CAPOTE CABRERA Born 1966, Cuba Arcadio is a multi talented artist, but works primarily as a sculptor in Cuba, Moscow and Denmark. He has made seven trips to Denmark Efterskole residing in Nyborg (High School in the city Nyborg) and shows his sculptures in cities Nyborg, Svendborg, Odense and some are in private collections.

His work is also seen at Art Gallery Impo, Johan Baun Plads 6, 8000 Århus, Dinmarca.

Has a diploma from the Institute of higher physical Culture , 1991 and The National Art School, Cuba, 1997.

Nació en 1966, Cuba Arcadio es multi-artista pero trabaja sobre todo como escultor en Cuba, Moscú y Dinamarca. Ha hecho siete viajes a Dinamarca con domicilio en Nyborg Efterskole (Escuela superior en la ciudad Nyborg) y se ve sus escultores en las ciudades Nyborg, Svendborg, Odense y unos son de propiedades privadas.

Exhibo sus dibujos en la Galería Art Impo, Johan Baunes Plads 6, 8000 Århus, Dinamarca.

BETH RICHARDSON Beth graduated in 2008 with a First, from the University of Gloucestershire with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Her work incorporates paintings made in response to the nature and physicality of distinctive, found, quotidian objects that have ceased to function in their normal way. She is particularly drawn to objects which have a strong visual history and human connotations; doors, chairs and baths. She says, “Domestic interiors become the subject of paintings in which.

I create psychological spaces and explore the strangely human characteristics the objects reveal both alone and in relation to each other.”

In recent work her simplified interior views have been more open to the elements; unglazed windows, open doorways or the branch of a tree in blossom introduce us to a more “outdoor” atmosphere. An atmosphere which places her beaten up tables and vintage chairs in a more sociable context.

Beth graduó de la Universidad de Gloucestershire con matrícula de honor en Bellas Artes. Sus obras consisten de pinturas hechas a raíz de utilizar la naturaleza de objetos cuotidianas que ya no funcionan de una forma normal.

Esta atraída por objetos con una fuerza visual histórica y con sentido humano, tales como sillas, puertas y baños. Ella describe sus obras como “ Interiores domesticas donde creo espacios pysicologicos y donde exploro la relación entre ellos tanto juntos como solos”. En sus obras recientes se puede observar como utiliza los espacios abiertos a los elementos, por ejemplo, ventanas sin cristales, unas puertas abiertas de par en par, una rama del árbol florecido todo lo cual hace un entorno más amena para sus objetos cotidianas como sillas rotas o mesa descuidada.

At a very young age Corine showed a real artistic talent. In 1991 she graduated in Modern Literature at the University of Bordeaux.

In 1994 she chose to go and to live in Portugal and it was in this country that she started to fulfill her artistic talents. The Mediterranean’s light had a great influence in her work. In 1997 she became a full time painter in Lagos, south of Portugal.

She exhibits in her studio where she paints and sells her work. Corine also exhibits her work in a number galleries which includes Harrogate in the UK; La Rochelle and Royan in France.

Her work is quite diverse and she is able to adapt her style to achieve the best result: from realism romantic to more modern where the light becomes colour.

In any of her canvases we can see the joy of the painter and the great importance given. Corine uses oil in her painting and palette knife but more recently also use acrylic in her modern paintings.

Su trabajo es mucho diversifícate y su estilo se adapta también para alcanzar el mejor resultado: de un realismo romántico en un estilo más moderno donde la luz se convirtió en color. En cualquiera de su lona podemos ver la alegría déla pintora y de la gran importancia dada en la luz. Ella trabaja con la pintura a olio con el cuchillo pero más recientemente también utiliza acrílico en sus pinturas más modernas.

ELAINE CARLTON I am a member of and I exhibit with Bolton Progressive Threads in England I believe that an artist works with her hands, her head and her heart and I hope that this is reflected in my work. I have always loved creating with fabrics and threads, and enjoyed teaching Art through the medium of textiles for over thirty years.

I have now reclaimed my creativity and enjoy producing my work for exhibitions, galleries and friends. I admire Jan Beeney and Jean Littlejohn as I feel they have done much to popularise textile art but I also like the work of Mary-Clare Buckle and her exciting use of colour.

Much of my inspiration comes from my travels, especially around Andalusia.

The heat and the sun influence the colours, textures and the content. My pictures are usually composed of a combination of mediums. They always involve machine and hand embroidery on handmade backgrounds. For these I use wool and silk fibres, handmade papers and sheers, which I frequently distress by burning.

My work varies in size from 13 x 13 cm to 70 x 100cm and can be found in private collections across the world.

Considero que ‘un artista trabaja con las manos, con la cabeza y con el corazón’ y espero que esta visión se refleja en mis obras. Siempre me ha gustado crear con telas e hilos, y durante más de 30 anos me ha encantado el ensenar arte por el medio de tejidos. Ya he redescubierto mi creatividad y la presentación de mi trabajo en exposiciones, en galerías y a mis amigos me proporciona un placer enorme.

Admiro mucho a Jan Beeney y a Jean Littlejohn porque considero que han conseguido mucho en popularizar el arte de tejido y también me gusta enormemente la obra de Mary-Clare Buckle y su utilización estimulante de color.

Mis obras varían en tamaño desde13 x 13 cm hasta 70 x 100cm y se encuentran en colecciones privadas en el mundo entero.

FATIMA GALAMBA Is an artist that studied in the “Escuela Independiente de Arte Arco” in Lisbon and in Roger Newton Private School in England.

Recognized internationally, she is a specialist in many techniques, such as: murals, trompe l’oeil, marbelising, restoration, Venetian Stucco, painting new furniture and restoration, also gold & silver leaf. GARY EDWARDS With a photographic career spanning 20 years, the ability to adapt to the situation in hand has enabled Edwards to demonstrate his photographic skills to a varied selection of clientele. His accounts include architects, hotels, interior designers, decor companies, jewellers and diverse magazines around Europe.

The versatility Edwards shows in his work is quite unique. His lighting of interiors and ability to bring out the soul of his portrait subjects is a talent few can emulate.

Aged eight, Edwards owned his first camera, at 22 he had a degree in Photography and at 24 he emigrated to Spain where he has been based for the last 16 year Now with the power of communications and the Internet, Edwards works on articles for a plethora of publications. Recent commissions include: photography for an online furniture catalogue, images for book publishers in Barcelona and limited edition prints of art images for 200 rooms of a 5-Star deluxe Hotel.

GENEVIEVE WENDALIN Was born in Finland in 1970. After finishing the University in London in1992, she continued her studies at the Open University of Art and Design in Helsinki (TaiK) taking courses in drawing the human body and perspectives.

Later she perfectioned her technique with specialized courses in the studio of Stig Fredriksson in Porvoo, mainly with portraits in oils, and with courses of pastel drawing with Pedro Ramirez in San Pedro de Alcantara. She initiated her professional career in 1995 with mural painting and trompe l´oeil, both in Spain and abroad.She finished numerous large scale comissions directly on walls for private art collectors, lawfirms, architects, and 5 star hotels. In 2006 Genevieve returned to work only from her studio, on framed pictures, and her first solo exhibition of watercolours called the Seeds of Love. Since then her work has been exhibited in various solo and group exhibitions.

Nace en Finlandia en 1970. HELEN D´ OUDEN Helen d’Ouden was born in Semarang (Indonesia) and then lived for several years in the then Dutch New Guinea. The impressions of nature’s rich and colorful tropical scenery left a lasting impression on Helen in particular Papua culture are reflected in her work.

The strong colors of her work are undoubtedly as a result of Helen’s travels around the world which include , Brazil, Africa, Argentina, Paraguay, Managua, Israel, Mexico and the Caribbean. The rich mix of colors that can be seen in the flora and fauna. Despite the poverty the people are happy, they like to live and not worry too much. Carpe Diem. ISYS KAD Isabel Pire, as an artist is better known as Isys Kad. She was born in Brussels in 1968.

Daughter, granddaughter and great-granddaughter of artists, she has been steeped in art since her early childhood. From the age of six, Isabel was educated artistically by her father, the Belgian master of contemporary painting, Ferdinand Pire. At the same time her academic education included; History of Art, Dramatic Art, Lyric song and Engraving in Brussels (Belgium) as well as Art Restoration in Florence (Italy). She began her career as an Artisan Painter in Paris, in the famous Gallery Daniel Delamare, Avenue Matignon, as reproduction painter, specializing in copies of Van Gogh, Gauguin and Modigliani. At the same time she was preparing her first exhibitions in Belgium on the theme of fencing, a sport which she has attained to a high level. She then continued with a series of works on sporting themes, pursuing her interest in the movement of the body . After a while she moved away from pure creation to dedicate herself to restoration of old paintings and monuments , which allowed her to distance herself from figurative classical painting. Her meeting with the famous English architect and sculptor Paffard Keatinge-Clay, led her towards compositions with cubist and later constructive elements, the lines are central to movement, always dominant in Isys Kad´s paintings. In the year 2000 she decided to come and live in Spain, in the Andalusian hills. Her life in the countryside has led her towards a work stronger in colours where blues and oranges dominate. In 2006 she was included in the Dictionary of Belgian Painters of the 20th century.

Isabel Pire, firmando Isys Kad como pintora, nació en Bruselas en 1968. Hija, nieta y bisnieta de pintores, es impregnada de arte desde su temprana niñez. Desde los seis años y hasta los diecinueve, recibió formación artística de un maestro belga de la pintura contemporánea, su padre Ferdinand Pire. Paralelamente cursa una formación académica: Historia de Arte, Arte Dramático, Cante Lírico y Grabado en Bruselas (Bélgica) y Restauración de Arte en Florencia (Italia) Inicia su carrera de Artesana Pintora en París, en una famosa galería de arte ( Galería Daniel Delamare, Avenue Matignon ) como copista, especializada en las reproducciones de Van Gogh, Gauguin, y Modigliani. Por otra parte prepara sus primeras exposiciones en Bélgica sobre el tema de la esgrima, deporte que ella practica a alto nivel.

Seguirá con una serie de obras con temática sobre el deporte, continuando su investigación sobre el movimiento del cuerpo. Se aleja un tiempo de la creación pura para dedicarse a la restauración de cuadros antiguos y la decoración monumental, lo que le permitirá distanciarse de la pintura clásica figurativa. Su encuentro con el reconocido arquitecto y escultor inglés Paffard Keatinge-Clay, la lleva hacia composiciones con tendencias cubistas y luego constructivistas , las líneas son ejes centrales del movimiento, siempre dominante en la pintura de Isys Kad.Desde el año 2000 reside en España, en los montes andaluces. Su estancia en el campo hace que el color adquiera más fuerza en su obra donde dominan azules y naranjos. Entra en el Diccionario de Pintores Belgas del siglo XX en el 2006.

JAVIER VELA Javier Vela, a teacher by profession (BA in the University Complutense of Madrid and a Ph.D. in Malaga), He teaches the town of San Pedro Alcantara Malaga, where he combines teaching of Art History and other vocations, painting is what has enriched his life and has transformed him and this has been turning point in recent years, working in landscapes also portraits. He has had several exhibitions over the years : Malaga (2005), Istan (2008) and collective Benahavís (2009). “ Javier Vela, docente de profesión (Licenciatura en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid y estudios de Doctorado en la de Málaga), ejerce dicha labor en un Instituto de la localidad malagueña de San Pedro Alcántara, donde compagina la enseñanza de la Historia del Arte con su otra vocación, la pintura, en la que se formó como autodidacta y en la que se viene volcando durante los últimos años, trabajando el paisaje junto al retrato. JULI ANN COWARD As a child I chose to paint the rooftops visible from my parents window. I have always loved painting all kinds of buildings from ancient to the most contemporary. I believe that all buildings have certain energy of their own which is independent of the way they are used by the people who inhabit them.

I do not have a preconceived idea of how a particular image will evolve, but I prefer to work instinctively and let the buildings divide the painting into different blocks of colour. I will experiment with surfaces and techniques and I will work with all sorts of media such as collage, ghesso, plaster, oils, acrylics and inks.

My dramatic use of colour permeates many of the pictures I paint. No tengo una idea preconcebida de cómo una imagen particular puede evolucionar, sino que prefiero trabajar instintivamente y dejar que los edificios dividan el cuadro en distintos bloque de color. Experimento con todo tipo de superficies y técnicas, tales como collage, yeso, óleo, materiales acrílicos y tintas. Mi uso exagerado del color está presente en los lienzos que pinto. El color y las líneas me atraen y cuando trabajo me gusta que los colores se entremezclen.

JOSÉ A. ROMERO Jose A. Romero (pseudonym Kurt218) As a child loved to paint. He has a Bachelor in Law from Cordoba University. After collaborating with some local magazines and awarded prizes, he discovered the art of paintings nudes and put aside the world of cartoons. Impressed by Guayasamín, Orozco and Picasso, and then began to use large canvases to express his view of reality After settling in Marbella, José turned his talents to painting landscape and seascapes.

In 1999, his painting experience a brutal turnaround after living the war in Sarajevo, and his painting will become more harsh and monochrome.

Between abstracts and figurative work, appear in his music, mythology, film, and the failure of man.

LAVINIA CROFT From a nomadic childhood, Lavinia Croft studied fashion at Maidenhead School of Art and Design and worked as a designer before leaving to live overseas for 10 years. She then attained a 1st class honours degree at Roehampton Institute in ‘Art in a Community Context’ and specialised in ceramics and painting. Lavinia moved to Spain in 2008 in order to paint full-time. Lavinia works, in oils. Her images, through subtle layers, capture the essence and the feeling of her subjects and the intense emotion of people and places. Her landscapes investigate how the landscape feels, and examine the impact of the view. Lavinia, also, paints large canvases of the inside of a single flower. In this way the flower becomes more a vehicle for exploring shape, space and depth, and examines the natural intricacy of colour and texture.

She is a member of the Asociación Española de Pintores y Escultores (AEPE).

De una infancia nómada, Lavinia Croft estudios de moda en la escuela Maidenhead School of Art and Design y trabajó como diseñador antes de vivir en el extranjero durante 10 años. Luego alcanzó una clase primera matrícula de honor en el instituto Roehampton en “el arte en un contexto comunitario» y se especializó en cerámica y pintura. Lavinia se trasladó a España en 2008 con el fin de la pintura a tiempo completo.

Lavinia obras al óleo. Sus imágenes, a través de capas sutiles, captura la esencia y el sentimiento de sus súbditos y la emoción intensa de personas y lugares. Sus paisajes investigar cómo el paisaje se siente, y examinar el impacto de la vista. Lavinia también pinta grandes lienzos del interior de una sola flor. De esta manera la flor se vuelve más un vehículo para explorar la forma, espacio y profundidad, y analiza la complejidad natural del color y la textura.

MARCO BOMBACH Marco Bombach was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1972. In 2001 he moved to Spain where a new chapter in his artistic development was about to start.

“I feel like being a world-citizen, traveling across with open eyes, absorbing what surrounds me and transforming it into the base of my work. I´m living in a multi-level, high energetic and dynamic construct which I try to reflect in my projects.

For me, it truly is a pure source of unlimited inspiration. Seeing myself as the illustrator of my dreams, my experiences and my visions, I want to capture those energies within my work so I can share it with others. Achieving a dynamic, linear layout, yet simplification of objects and elements in composition with expressive color schemes is the main goal in the body of my work.”

He is currently living and working in Málaga and his studio in Pedregalejo.

MARGIT BJÖRKLUND Margit Björklund born in Haparanda, Sweden.

I have been drawing and painting all my life and over the years I have tried different ways of expressing myself.

In oil painting I have found the medium that suits my temperament due to the possibility to keep the working process open for a long time. I also appreciate the shiny finish and the depth that the oil colours give.

Through studies of the old masters, literature and by observing people and the environment around me I find plenty of inspiration. In my paintings I try to translate feelings into colour and form preferably with a twist of humour.

I am a member of Costa del Sol Decorative and Fine Arts Society (NADFAS).

A través de estudios de maestros antiguos, de la literatura y mediante observar mi propio entorno encuentro mucha inspiración. En mis pinturas intento trasladar sentimientos en color y forma, preferiblemente con una gotita de humor.

MARY EISMAN American engraver and painter Mary Eisman was born in Florida and grew up in Argentina, Aruba, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Greece. She lived for extended periods in the United States, Greece, Puerto Rico and Portugal. For the past 20 years she has lived and worked in her own engraving studio in the mountain village of Mijas overlooking the Costa del Sol near Malaga in Spain.

She regards herself as fundamentally self-taught although she attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the Engraving Workshop of the Cultural Department of Fuengirola in Spain, the Gravura Engraving Workshop in Málaga, and the Mijas Art Center.

She has participated in 23 group exhibitions in Málaga. Her engravings have been shown at galleries in various parts of the United States and Spain. Her work decorates the Hotel Palacio de Figaredo in Mieres, Asturias, and is represented in hundreds of private collections. The municipality of Mijas uses several of her engravings as posters and motifs for events such as the International Day celebration. Mary Eisman’s work can presently be seen at the Galería Arboreda in El Ferrol in Galicia Province, at the Galería Lecrin in Almuñecar in Granada Province, at El Taller in Mijas, at Galleri Kjeldaas in Oslo, Norway and at the Blue Heron Gallery in Hinesburg, Vermont, USA. La grabadora y pintora norteamericana Mary Eisman nació en Florida. De niña se crió en Argentina, Aruba, Cuba y Puerto Rico. Ha vivido largos periodos en EE.UU. Grecia, Puerto Rico y Portugal. Durante los últimos 20 años ha vivido y trabajado en su propio taller de grabado en el pueblo de Mijas en Málaga.

Se considera básicamente autodidacta aunque ha cursado estudios en el Art Institute of Chicago, el taller Gravura en Málaga, el taller de grabado del municipio de Fuengirola, y el Centro de Arte de Mijas.

Mary Eisman ha participado en 23 exposiciones colectivas en Málaga. Sus grabados han sido expuestos en EE.UU., Portugal y España. METTE BRAUNER MADSEN Mette is a young impulsive artist that likes to draw, paint and to exhibit her creativity. As a child taking part in courses in drawing and is now she is studying at The Academy of Art in the city Århus, Denmark. Mette is about to graduate as a psychologist. Her interest in psychology manifested in their artistic talents where externalizing emotions such as deep as the grief and anguish.

Exhibited in Byhøjskolen, 2007 and Ramboll Management, 2009 Mette es una artista joven a la que siempre ha gustado dibujar, pintar, exponer su creatividad. MICHÉLE DUFFY After more than twenty years working the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, I am now happy to be based as mural artist on the Costa del Sol Malaga.

In 1986 I started working for a company that specialised in hand painted children’s furniture. During those years I was fortunate enough to have the experience of painting not just for many famous people, but also for royalty.

Soon customers were asking for me to paint in their homes too, and I became so busy that I left the furniture company in 1994 to concentrate full time on the work that I have been doing ever since.

I still travel to the United Kingdom, as most of my clients are based there, however, I am happy to travel where I can paint my murals, areas I cover include:All of the United Kingdom, Spain, Málaga, Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Torremolinos, Benalmádena, Fuengirola, Calahonda, Marbella, Puerto Banus, Sotogrande, San Pedro.

MONICA DEL NORTE Estonian artist living in Spain. Mostly using acrylic and mixed media on canvas.

Monica del Norte has been exhibiting since 1992. She has studio-gallery in Puerto de la Duquesa since 2001. “I spent most of my childhood very close to nature, contact with God’s creation is fundamental to my spirit and well-being.

More than anything else the world needs creative ideas.” Music and dance have always been part of her life but medieval music and opera especially form part of her artwork with colour and purity.”

MUGGE FISCHER Danish born Mogens Jéan Fischer - Mugge to his friends – is a multi-talent artist who has been living in Marbella on the Spanish Costa del Sol since 2001.

All his life is dedicated to painting, graphic design, dance, theater, events and cultural events. His artwork is easily recognized because of the use of strong colors and a very personal mix of old and new techniques. His fine susceptibility in adapting special information to his surroundings, which his artwork is outstanding, especially his portraits which are very strong and highly appraised. Mugge is constantly searching for new concepts and ideas in catching the joy of the Andalusian lifestyle within his colorful paintings.

OSE DEL SOL Ose del Sol, born in Extremadura, has spent the last 20 years of his life in Southern Spain, deeply inspired from the beauty of Andalusia and its traditions, has been in the arts for many years, starting out as a designer, and there after he entered the world of Fine Art, in which he is in his own element.

His paintings are highly appreciated by art collectors and buyers who admire the unbelievable color chart, the masterly setting of light and shadow as well as his ability to find the perfect composition.

PABLO REVIREGO Pablo Reviriego Moreno was born in Santa Maria del Berrocal (Avila), but moved to Madrid as a teenager. On the board of the “Spanish Association of watercolorists” and “Spanish Association of Painters and Sculptors” and is a member of the Academy of Arts and Letters San Antón “. PABLO TELLO Pablo Tello´s style is classed as Neosurrealism Baroque, he creates worlds of forms and colors with everyday objects to transform and integrate them into another reality . The chaos is controlled and supervised by the artist.

Pablo Tello is also a photographer, a painter, creates video art and performance and he is beginning to create small sculptures.

This photographic series Caracool “Fresh Face”, where he uses his ability to create worlds and added his self-portrait drawing the most theatrical, to convey emotions, transforming and disguising himself as a protagonist than the work.

Es un caos controlado y supervisado por el artista. Además de fotógrafo, es pintor, crea video-art y performance y está iniciando la actividad de creación de pequeñas esculturas.

Esta serie fotográfica Caracool “cara fresca”, utiliza la capacidad de creación de sus universos y añade su autorretrato sacando la parte más teatral, para transmitir emociones, transformándose y disfrazándose de un protagonista distinto según la obra. Policromado, ornamentado y cuidando los detalles.

Luego, cuando los observas te cuentan su historia de porque están ahí. Los objetos y las cosas le dicen dónde y cómo quieren estar, el sólo les ayuda a colocarse con su mejor expresión y lado más fotogénico.

Las obras son entornos creados por el artista, reutilizando cualquier objeto, pintándolo y reconociéndole una nueva forma estética siempre muy distinta a su original utilidad.

PAVEL NIKOLAEV Pavel Nikolaev was born on the 11th April 1958 in Moscow.

He worked and exhibited his works in Europe, America, South Africa. Now Pavel Nikolaev works with wood using unique techniques, makes exclusive furniture and articles for interior. Most of his works are carried out in different techniques: both on wood and cloth, they are in private collections in Russia and abroad.

ROBERT VAN KESSEL Robert van Kessel was born in Tilburg (The Netherlands) and graduated in 1998. After his emigration to Southern Spain in 2007 he started to make abstract paintings only using acrylic paint. He currently lives and works in Marbella, where the majority of his exhibitions are held.

Benefitting from the splendid and special light of the climate of Southern Spain, he is stimulated to use mainly primary and contrasting colours. Emotion and expression is reflected in his work. He creates a strong design and these couple well with bold lines and rich colours and surface textures.

His work becomes a product of experiences and feelings. With each completion of a painting a certain emotion is concluded, that results in a powerful simplicity with a well-considered balance.

Robert van Kessel nació en Tilburg (Países Bajos) y gradúo en 1998. Se emigró al Sur de España donde en 2007 empezó a crear sus obras abstractas utilizando pintura acrílica. En la actualidad vive y trabaja en Marbella, donde se exhibe a menudo.

Aprovechando la luz esplendida y tan especial que ofrece el clima del sur de España, se inspira a utilizar principalmente los colores primarios y contrastes.

La emoción y sentimiento se ve através de sus trabajos. Tiene un fuerte concepto de diseño y junto con las líneas fuertes y colores intensos con texturas de superficie, hacen una obra interesante.

Sus obras son productos de experiencias y sentimientos. Cada vez que termina una obra, se destaca la emoción, resultado de una poderosa sencillez y equilibrio.

RUSTAM ISMATULLAEV Rustam Ismatullaev was born in Tashkent the capital of Uzbekistan in the South of USSR in 1959. He started drawing at the early age and made his first posters at school. In 1981 he entered the Institute of Architecture of Tashkent and during his studies he worked as a decorator at the theatre-studio “Uzbekfilm” and for a few years worked for one of the most prestigious, at the time design centres “Style”.

In 1990 became a member of Union of Professional Artists of Soviet Union. The same year Rustam opened his own company “Design +” and was offered to decorate a number well-known places in town including 2 of the best hotels: hotel “Moskva” and hotel “Tashkent”. In 1994 he was offered to take a project in Moscow and within first year 15 of his works were chosen for decoration of the city. Then he moved on to illustrating books for children and immediately received a lot of orders from different publishers (most known would be “Flamingo”, “Ling”, “Rosmen” etc.) In total Rustam made around a thousand books for kids, which are sold around the world.

Also he was getting requests from post card publishes and it was a huge success again and now his works are published by “Open Planet”, “GrandCard”, “Prazdnik”, “Sfera”,“Mir Pozdravleniy”, Mail.ru etc. His own publishing agency “Vinsent” participated in the International Books and Cards Exhibitions in Moscow. In 2007 he came to Spain and realised this is the place to stay and now he is enjoying living in Mijas Costa, continue working with customers in Russia, Finland, USA and exploring Spain. This all would be possible without great help of his art partner and wife Inna.

Rustam Ismatullaev nació en Tashkent, capital de Uzbekistan al sur del USSR en 1959. Empezó a dibujar cuando aún era muy joven y hizo sus primeros carteles (poster) mientras estaba en el colegio. En 1981 entró a estudiar en el Instituto de Arquitectura de Tashkent y mientras estudiaba, trabajaba como decorador de teatro con los estudios de Uzbekfilm y durante unos años trabajo con el prestigioso centro de diseño “Style”. En el 1990 se hizo socio de la Unión de Artistas Profesionales de la URSS y en el mismo año se creó su propio negocio llamado Design+ y fue elegido para diseñar dos de los mejores hoteles, el hotel “Moskva” yel hotel “Tashkent”. En el año 1994 fue ofrecido con un proyecto en Moscu y durante el primer año del proyecto, 15 de sus obras fueron elegidos para decorar la ciudad. Siguió con ilustraciones de libros para niños y recibió muchas peticiones de distintos editores tales como Flamingo, Ling or Rosmen etc.

Rustam ilustró unos 1,000 libros para niños que ahora se publican a través del mundo, y ha sido todo un éxito y ahora sus obras están publicados por Open Planet, GrandCard, Prazdnik, Sfera, Mir Pozdravlenty, Mail.ru etc. En el año 2007 llegó a España y decidió quedarse – ahora reside en Mijas Costa, y sigue trabajando con clientes Rusos, Finlandeses y ahora España. Nada de eso hubiera sido posible sin la gran ayuda de su pareja Inna.

STEPHEN EMBERTON Stephen began to paint for the first time after he retired from the Wellcome Trust, London in 1997. Shortly after Steve and his wife who comes from the Basque Country decided to live Elviria, Marbella. He decided to take up an oil painting course with Ayuntamento Enrique Calixto in Las Chapas twice a week Since then he has painted some eighty paintings of all genres. Exemples of his work can be viewed on his website Stephen Empezo a pintar por primera vez cuando se jubilo del Wellcome Trust, London en 1997. Poco despuĂŠs Steve y su mujer del PaĂ­s Vasco fijaron su residencia en Elviria, Marbella. Se apunto al curso de pintura al oleo con Enrique Calixto en el Ayuntamiento de Las Chapas los martes y jueves por la tarde.

YUL HANCHAS Yul Hanchas was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1971. He finished art school and then had a great opportunity to learn more about Art at his father’s workshops, where he spent his entire childhood and after school, helping to cut and paste colored glass and at the same time studying stained glass styles. He was taught by great Masters of iconography, sculpture, jewelry and restoration. He worked with his father as art-decorator beautifying different towns of Sakhalin in the Far East of Russia. In 1992-2002 in Israel he had his own stained glass and art forging studio, however, always continued working with oil, mixing and finding different styles until he had invented his own technique – volumetric pop art. Annually participated in the Expo, where he represented his paintings and exclusive forged interior work and had personal exhibitions in galleries in Jaffa, Italy and USA. Since 2002 he lives and works in Moscow and now, you can find his works in galleries and private collections of well-known people of Russia and abroad.

Yul Hanchas nació en Kiev, Ucrania, en 1971. Graduó de la escuela de arte y tuvo la oportunidad de seguir aprendiendo en los talleres de su padre, donde pasó mucho tiempo ayudando y aprendiendo cortar y pegar vidrio y los distintos estilos de arte. Sus profesores fueron maestros en icoografía, escultura, joyeria y restauración. Trabajó junto con su padre como decorador, embellezando distintos pueblos de Sakhalin en el este de Rusia. Entre los años 1992 y 2002 vivió en Israel donde tuvo su propio taller de arte y de vidrio, y siguio trabajando tambien con oleos, inventando varios estilos y maneras de aplicación – pop art.

Anaulamente ha particiipado en exposiciones exhibiendo sus obras exclusivas y en especial en galerias en Jaffa, Italia y los EEUU. Desde el 2002 trabaja y reside en Moscu, donde se puede encontrar sus obras en galerias privadas rusas y en el extranjero.

YURY BESSONOV Bessonov Yury was born in Uzbekistan in 1962.

In 1987 has finished Architectural Institute in Tashkent, and since 1988 worked as landscape and interior designer in various companies in Tashkent.

However, he always took a great interest in woodcarving. It was a hobby, which then grew into the main work of his life. More than 400 masterpieces: figurines, chess, backgammon sets and sculptures.

Yury´s work can be found in private collections in USA, France, Spain, Italy, Turkey, Russia. Yury now lives and works in Spain.

En el 1987 graduó del Instituto de Arquitectura de Tashkent y desde 1988 trabaja como paisajista y diseñador de interiores con varias empresas de Tashkent. Sin embargo su interés fue en la escultura de madera que fue su “hobby” pero que luego creció a ser su interés principal. Más de 400 piezas contando con estatuillos, ajedrez, y backgammon y escultores.

Sus obras están localizadas en colecciones privadas de los EEUU, España, Italia y Turquía y Rusia. Hoy en día, está afincada en España.

Julie Anne Hunter

Mezzo Soprano, Julie-Anne Hunter, started her career when she was awarded a scholarship to study singing and classical guitar at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Whilst there she won prizes for singing and was awarded a further scholarship for advanced opera training. She has sung many operatic roles in Britain and abroad in addition to her operatic singing. Julie-Anne has diversified into other singing disciplines; performing Early Music, Sacred Music and Show Music.
